You know that saying, “home is where the heart is?” That saying really applied to me today. Lets face it, I live in New York, but my heart is in Boston. It always will be. It is so obvious on this blog. Anytime I see something totally ass-backwards in NY, I think to myself, “Boston would totally do this differently.”

I love the city. I love the fact that I grew up, right smack dab in the center of it.

I love that my family has been in the same house for 20 years. That when I come home, my neighbors tell me how nice it is to see me.

I love that is so damn beautiful. I love that unlike many other cities in the world, you can’t tear it down and build over it. They protect it’s history.

Marathon Monday is one of the few times the city really knows how to put on a show.

This year, more than any other year, I had many friends as well as family run. It is tough to get Patriot’s Day off, so every year I always sneak onto a local news website at work to watch the coverage. It reminds me of the years that I had handed out water. The year I cheered on my own sister. Before all the crazy tracking technology, my math-loving step dad had us meet up with her three times, all just minutes before she showed up. It makes it all feel a little closer.

So this year it was a sad day for anyone who is a Bostonian, runner, supporter, Patriot-day enthusiast. This year, my parents decided to go to work(aholics). This year my little sister decided to not meet up with friends cheer people on at the finish line. This year, my friends running either finished safely, or were stopped at a safe distance. This year, everyone I know and love were lucky. I consider myself lucky too.
